Blog 7: Self Reflection - A New Question?
- A Self Reflection: The new question.
After looking back at all of the research that I have been doing, the scholarly articles I've read, the TedTalks I've watched, it was time to self reflect.
My original research question was: Is Technology in the classroom helping or hurting students? It is evident to me that I am still extremely interested in knowing the true answer to this question. However, as I continue to read through scholarly articles and articles, and watch TedTalks, I have noticed a trend. Most of the resources were saying the exact same thing. They would give reasons as to why technology is definitely beneficial in the classroom, however, they would also mention reasons why it hinders student learning. I have come to the realization that technology in classrooms is relatively new. There is not enough information or studies on the topic to come to an actual conclusion on whether technology helps or hurts our students.
Over the last few weeks, I have decided that it would be best to research and learn about how technology in the classroom is helping or hindering our students. But I would also like to be able to find strategies which I could use technology to advance learning, rather than providing an outlet for distraction. It is evident that there are both pros and cons to technology in the classroom. However, as the research is minimal, I would like to focus my attention on how I could provide meaningful lessons to my students using technology. Which apps are best to increase student interest and avoid any digital distractions? Over the next few blogs, I will be exploring how to avoid digital distractions and what tools can be utilized to increase student engagement.
As virtual classrooms have not been used long enough for longitudinal studies, I look forward to revisiting this blog in the future and seeing what new studies have been completed. Continue with me on my journey of researching about technology in the classroom. After all, this is a process.

Hi Giulia,
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you that our reflective blogs are a process and we may not always find the answers we are looking for. I think it is great that you have shifted your focus after finding pretty unanimous results throughout your research of whether technology is helpful or a hinderance. I look forward to see which direction your research takes you in and am sure you will be able to find a lot of great resources on how to provide meaningful technological experiences for your students and some helpful digital tools to do so.
